Sex steroid hormones regulate regions of the mammalian brain that support higher-order cognitive functions. The Jacobs Lab uses brain imaging, endocrine, and computational approaches to understand the extent to which endogenous and exogenous hormone factors influence the structural and functional architecture of the human brain. Major initiatives include the study of neuroendocrine aging during the midlife transition to menopause, pharmacological studies of gonadal hormone suppression, and dense-sampling studies across the menstrual cycle.
